Rowe School’s Meet and Greet and PreK & K Social in late August provide students and families a first glimpse of the school setting community and an opportunity to meet teachers and staff members.

There are many ways to volunteer at Rowe.  Parents can:

• Volunteer in the Classroom: 
  • Clerical/preparation work
  • Sign up to read with students
  • Support supervising recess and/or lunch
  • Support for special events (classroom celebrations or projects)
  • Member of the PBIS team (1 morning per month: 7:45-8:30 am)
     
• Volunteer through the Academic Team to help in the school but outside of your child’s classroom.  The Academic Team is made up of the following staff:

• Join the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).  Rowe has an active and engaged Parent-Teacher Organization.  Connect to learn news, events, fundraising initiatives, and more.  To contact the PTO, visit their website at roweschoolpto.org, or find them on Facebook.

Please note, in order to chaperone field trips, parents must complete the volunteer application packet in advance of the scheduled field trip.

Parent-teacher conferences are held in both fall and spring in person. Parents select a time before or after school, together with the student, to meet with the teacher to discuss the student’s progress, how the student can be supported at home, receive information on all assessments and testing, and ask questions.  Students from each grade level have a role in the conference.  Roles vary based on grade level.  Student involvement at the primary level includes sharing work samples, while at the intermediate level, students design a presentation where they share their progress and goals for each subject.   Support staff (e.g. Special Education, English Language Teachers, Literacy & Math Interventionists and the Instructional Coach) attend conferences based on availability.  Language facilitators are available if needed.

Teacher, Administration, and Staff Availability and Communication

• Teachers and Administration will be available before, during, and after school to meet and consult with parents, if needed.  Staff can be contacted by email (first 5 characters of teacher’s last name, plus first character of first name @portlandschools.org) or phone at 207.874.8105.  Language facilitators can be provided.
• Teachers provide updates on classroom activities on at 1-2 times monthly through classroom newsletters, notes, emails, or the School newsletter, which can be easily translated using the Smore app. Teachers also use Reachmyteach app, so school communications (emails and texts) can be translated.

Surveys

• Surveys are available throughout the year to capture parent assessment on school communication, volunteering, curriculum and conferences to solicit feedback and opinions.  Links to the survey are embedded in Rowe’s weekly newsletter to parents so they may access translation supports.
• District surveys are also provided each year via robo calls and texts and shared with our school as further feedback.

Newsletters

• Administration, teachers, and the PTO work together to create a periodic newsletter that is sent home electronically, and posted on the Amanda C. Rowe School website.  The newsletter often consists of a message from our administration, class updates, field trip news, listings of important dates and more.

Notifications via phone (robocall) of upcoming events and important school news

• To inform parents of an upcoming event or change, Rowe will send out a mass phone or text message to all with phone numbers on record.
• All Title 1 documents are available on our website, on our newsletter or by contacting the school office.  We can also provide translation of all documents through our Multilingual Office.
• Notifications can also be communicated via classroom teachers through the ReachMyTeach app to support translation.

Family Handbook

• The Rowe Family Handbook shares our school’s vision, provides an overview of school policies and procedures, lists teacher names and important dates.  The Handbook is on our school webpage.

The success of our students requires support, encouragement and involvement from teachers, staff, parents and community.  It is our policy to keep families informed and involved with school. This compact is posted on our website and weekly newsletter. Parents have the opportunity to comment and provide suggestions by filling out the survey below or by contacting administration.

Attend, and arrive at school on time, well rested, and prepared for a full day of instruction and learning. Read with an adult or be encouraged to read each day.
