Crisis Plans and Safety-Related Procedures

For the safety of every student, all visitors must have a reason for being in the building. When visitors will be entering the building beyond the main office for specific reasons, they must sign in and receive a visitor badge. This is an established safety procedure designed to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff.

Many preventive and emergency response measures are in place in our school system to provide for the safety of our students and staff. The Board of Education policy requires each school to have a crisis plan in place that is very specific. The plans follow the procedures developed for Portland Public Schools School Emergency Management Plan. Each school is also required to conduct practice drills to make sure that staff are familiar with the emergency plan.
